Engaging Learners

An educational book written in Hebrew.

October 7th awakened a profound desire for Jewish learning, as people from all walks of life – those new to Judaism and those seeking to reconnect with their heritage – yearned to deepen their Jewish identity. With our foundational programs already in place, we seized the moment to renew our commitment to Jewish education and community building. We strengthened our initiatives, including Talk for a Change, Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (REDI) workshops, and adult online education classes, to foster a culture of empathy, belonging, and spiritual growth. By deepening our investment in these programs, we created vibrant spaces for connection, exploration, and meaning.

REDI Workshops

In 2024, we continued to answer the call for creating and nurturing communities of belonging by facilitating free workshops throughout the year that challenged participants to confront biases, encouraged them to envision ways to create spaces of belonging, and gave them tools to be effective allies.

As of December 2024, the URJ’s REDI workshops reached over 6,000 participants!

Adult Online Education

In 2024, we met the rising demand for Jewish learning opportunities, resulting in a 24% increase in our classes’ total enrollment. Our online classes provide adult learners a space to explore Judaism in a safe, judgment-free environment, and we’re thrilled to be a part of their lifelong Jewish journeys and help them build vibrant communities.

Talk for a Change Curriculum

As tensions and conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians affect communities worldwide, we believe that fostering respectful conversations in our own North American communities is a vital step towards promoting greater understanding, empathy, trust, and peace. Through our Talk for a Change curriculum of conversation cards, facilitation guides for congregations and communities, and supplemental resources, we encouraged dialogues across lines of difference. Our curriculum equipped people with a model for engaging in respectful conversations with friends, family, and their communities about complex topics.
